CPC packs Lunar New Year Gift for its poor members

The ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) will hand out gifts and cash worth 64 million yuan (about 8.7 million U.S. dollars) to veteran and needy members for the lunar new year, the most important traditional Chinese festival.

The money will come from party fees collected from members, according to a decision of the organization department of the CPC Central Committee.

According to the department, poor rural party members, unemployed urban members, and members who have suffered from disasters will qualify for the gift, which shall be distributed on the occasion of the lunar new year, which falls on February 7 this year.

The department urged its affiliated organs at the provincial level appropriate a certain amount of subsidy to cover more party members in financial difficulties.

It also urged officials of organization organs at all local levels to visit veteran Party members more often, care their living standards, and listen to their appeals.
