DOHA, Qatar — The First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani yesterday formally inaugurated the SEEF Company’s $300 million Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) plant in Mesaieed Industrial City. The plant, which is designed to produce 100,000 metric tonnes of LAB per annum, a detergent intermediate used for the manufacture of environment-friendly household detergents, started its production early last year. — 327 words.

Somerville first golfer to score hole in one

Mike Weir is the first Canadian male to win a professional major golf championship but some argue he’s not the first to win a major. Sandy Somerville of London, Ont. won the U.S. Amateur golf championship in 1932, back when it was considered to be a major.  Somerville was also the first golfer to score at hole in one in the Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia.
